Even in the 1960s, open land was scarce in Greater Tokyo. The TAMAGAWA mall was squeezed onto a tiny -7.9 acre- parcel. The multi-level complex encompassed approximately 525,300 leasable square feet, with 120 shops and services. Note: in Japan, only primary streets are named. A block numbering system is used, with addresses designated by when structures were built. Hence, only a single thoroughfare, Tamagawa Dori, is indicated on the site plan above.
