Lalaport Funabashi Center
(Lalaport Tokyo-Bay)

Japan's first American-style shopping mall was dedicated in April 1981. LALAPORT FUNABASHI CENTER was built by the Mitsui Fudosan Company, a Tokyo-based real estate conglomerate. They went on to develop several Lalaport-branded shopping facilities. According to Mitsui Fudosan, "Lalaport" is a combination of "Lala" (or the "lala" of a vibrant heart) and "Port" (a harbor where hearts get together).
