Toronto's TTC extended rapid transit service to YORKDALE CENTRE. The Spadina  Expressway Line commenced revenue service in January 1978. It was an expressway median route, similar to those on Chicago's "L." Proposed extensions of the Spadina Expressway were bitterly contested and the project was eventually abandoned. What had been completed was renamed Allen Road in 1980.

In 1986, TTC's Yorkdale Station was physically connected to the Yorkdale Place office tower -and YORKDALE mall- via an enclosed walkway.
