Toronto's TTC extended rapid transit service to the vicinity of YORKDALE CENTRE, with the completion of the Spadina Expressway Line. Beginning revenue service in January 1978, it was an expressway median route, similar to those on Chicago's "L". Proposed extensions to the Spadina Expressway were bitterly contested and the project was abandoned in 1971. What had been completed was renamed Allen Road in 1980.

TTC's Yorkdale Station was physically connected to the mall (via an enclosed walkway in the Yorkdale Place office tower) in 1986.
