Dating back to 1670, HUDSON'S BAY COMPANY is the oldest commercial corporation in North America. The institution, originally a fur trading and governing entity, opened its first department store, in Winnipeg, in 1881. Originally headquartered in London, England, the corporate offices were moved to Winnipeg in 1970 and eventually relocated to Toronto. Today, the HBC is involved in a myriad of enterprises, such as department store retail, high finance, supermarkets, cinemas and restaurants.
